"Bits and pieces of the Microsoft cockpit panels were created by referencing photographs taken of those few remaining planes of the WWII era.

In creating the six panels above, I did a lot of treasure hunting just trying to find the authentic dials, knobs, gun-sites, machine guns and even an authentic lucky charm from a Japanese Zero aircraft. It was an interesting challenge in perspective, authenticity and realism down to the finest details of dirt, cracks and tiny bits of rust.

Because these cockpits were to be used by players in the flight simulator, each dial, knob, gun site, button and lever had to move. Each tiny piece was a separate file which moved in correlation to the action of the player as well as the action during the flight simulation." -km.
